Hi, I'm Grace E. Carlson.
Trademark, IP, and AI attorney, and founder of aTMospheric IP
I help business owners, entrepreneurs, and creators protect the brands, ideas, and contracts that grow their businesses. I started aTMospheric IP because I've seen how much value intellectual property can add to a business, and I wanted to create an approachable place where creators and entrepreneurs get the legal partnership they need from the beginning, not after a problem appears.
My goal is to make that partnership easy. I'll explain your options in plain language, help you weigh the risks that actually matter for your business, and give you a clear plan you can act on.
How I work
-
Plain language, no jargon. You'll understand what you're signing, filing, and deciding, and why it matters.
-
Proactive, not reactive. We look ahead at where your business is going, so your legal protection keeps pace with your growth.
-
Predictable pricing. Flat-fee packages and monthly plans mean you know the cost up front, with no surprise hourly bills.
-
Practical about AI. I help businesses use AI tools with confidence, from ownership and licensing questions to the policies and disclosures that keep you protected.
Experience you can rely on
I've spent nearly two decades working in intellectual property, alongside in-house legal teams at a major technology company, at IP-focused law firms, and in IP consulting. Along the way, I've worked on trademark and brand strategy, licensing and negotiations, SaaS and open source agreements, and IP due diligence, often side by side with engineers, inventors, and product teams. That range means I understand how legal decisions play out in real businesses, not just on paper.
My background includes roles at Microsoft, K&L Gates, and Aon IP Solutions, experience I now bring to every client at aTMospheric IP.

Who I work with
My clients include small business owners sorting through contracts, founders building something new, authors navigating publishing deals, creators growing their audiences, and established companies that want an experienced IP partner. What they have in common is that they care about what they're building and want to protect it the right way. I also help clients plan for the future of their business and creative assets through estate and legacy planning. If that sounds like you, I'd love to hear about your vision.
Outside the office
When I'm not working with clients, I'm often teaching classes on intellectual property and contracts or joining reading events with writers' associations around the Seattle area. You'll also find me cheering on the Seattle Sounders FC with my family or taking long walks with my dog, especially in the fall.
